Watch the spectacular display of sailing from Cottesloe beach on Saturday morning

Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club in Peppermint Grove will be hosting an offshore yacht race off the coast of Perth on Saturday 6 April. The fleet will be in good view of the beaches from North Cottesloe between 9:30 and 11:30am.

Seventeen racing yachts will be competing in the Cape Vlamingh Race. Spectators will see the fleet racing close to the coastline between North Cottesloe and South Cottesloe Beach in the morning before heading west to Rottnest Island. The course will take the yachts on a full rounding of the island then back to a marker off North Cottesloe Beach where they will be seen through the afternoon racing south along the beaches to the finish area in Fremantle.

This is a great opportunity to view the impressive offshore racing yachts in action. The teams have recently contested the 71st Bunbury and Return Ocean Race and the Roland Smith Ocean Race, both run by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. Usually well out to sea for the offshore racing series, it is a marvellous initiative to bring the course in close to the Perth beaches for the enjoyment of the locals.

This connection with the locals ashore is enjoyed by the competitors. It is a special feeling for the teams to be racing in view of the beach.

Barchetta in North Cottesloe is again a partner of the sailing event and will be promoting the activity. Race information and details of the yachts will be available for spectators watching from the restaurant.
