ICR 2017 was held at R.F.B.Y.C on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 November 2017. This year we had a record number of 221 competitors sailing in 13 different fleets on 182 boats. A special mention to the 11 visiting Optimist sailors from the Singapore Sailing Association, and competitors that drove up from Albany to compete.
The two-day regatta was a fantastic leadup event for those sailors heading off to contest National and World Championship events over the New Year Period. With big fleet starts and varied conditions the competitors were keen to use this regatta as their final training regatta to test their skills before the big events over the Summer. Congratulations to all the competitors even the young silver fleet kids who made their regatta debut this weekend.
This regatta would not happen without the 65 volunteers dressed in blue, who supported the event both on and off the water, in the canteen, behind the registration desk or keeping the sailors safe on the water, your contribution was greatly appreciated.
Many thanks to the professional race management teams on the two courses, led by John Taylor and Geoff Brown. Special mention to John Standley and Paul Green as jury/ arbitrators and Rick Steuart and Nick Bootsma as regatta photographers. Of course, it is impossible to name every individual – however you can rest assure that the sailors and we at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club greatly appreciate your contribution to this regatta.
Lastly, these events do not happen without the generous support of our sponsors. Thanks to Gill Australia for the regatta shirts, D’Orsogna for the ham, bacon and sausages and Monkeyfist Marine – Remy Donraadt for the great prizes and pop up shop during the event.
We look forward to seeing you all at ICR 2018.
