The Pantaenius Australia 2015 WA IRC State Championships, hosted by Fremantle Sailing Club, will begin on Saturday 20th June with 27 yachts entered.
RFBYC is strongly represented, with entries from By & Large, French Kiss, Joss, The X Factor, This Way Up, Indian and defending champion The Next Factor. The podium places at the state titles have traditionally been dominated by our club, including wins across most divisions. The teams hope to continue this tradition with strong performances again this year. Indian Sailing Team is a new addition to the WA scene. Fresh from a win overall and on IRC in the recent Fremantle to Bali Race, she hopes to be a strong contender for the division one title.
IRC is by far the most widely used and respected rating system in the world. The rule has now been around for over 30 years, and most major races and regattas are awarded based on IRC. West Australian IRC boats, range in size from 29’ river racers to TP52’s which provide for great racing and an impressive spectacle.
For the 2015 event, the state championships are being incorporated into the Valmadre Cup Series. The series is run over four weekends, and consists of a combination of passage races, and windward – leeward races. Final race day and presentations are scheduled for Saturday 1st August.
