The final day of racing saw just 4-7 knots of wind with particularly choppy conditions, making for a difficult race track.
After slipping to a 1-2 score line in a first to 3 point final, the team- Sam Gilmour, Adam Negri and Storm Brown pushed hard and were able to even the score up the score line in the fourth race.
The final race of the regatta was an incredibly close fought battle, with the team going tack for tack top mark, our boat handling started to pay and we closed in, managing to overtake and take the lead for the downwind. From there it was a tense sail around the rest of the course, holding the lead all the while to take the win!
It was an ecstatic victory for the guys- taking a win back off Snow who won gold at the World University Championships two weeks earlier. It was also great to have Storm Brown on board, a San Diegan who was happy to switch alliances for the week.
It’s been an awesome week both on and off the water, everyone involved is extremely helpful and really get behind the whole event. It really makes it an incredible experience!
Neptune Racing have to thank Balboa Yacht Club, as well our home club Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club for all their support. Also to Zhik, Kaenon and the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation for all their ongoing help with our sailing endeavours.
The team will now put our focus on the ISAF World Youth Match Racing Championships in Helsinki, so it’s time for Adam and Sam to pack up and head back to Europe!
