Outstanding performances from our sailors at the OAMPS Youth National Championships, has resulted with gold medal placings to Lachy Gilmour & Tom Blaauw in the 420 Class and Mark Spearman in the Laser Radial Class today in Hobart.
In the 420 Class, the top 3 positions were decided in the final race of the day. Freshie members, Will Boulden & Nic Gale sailed a brilliant regatta, only to be pipped at the post by Lachy & Tom. Newly crowned National Champions Lachy & Tom finished the final day of racing strongly with three 1st placings, resulting in a one point win over Will & Nic. Emerson Carlberg & George Boulden finished a credible 7th place. Member, Carrie Smith and her crew Ella Clark finished 5th overall and 1st Youth Female.
Mark Spearman sailed an almost perfect regatta winning 7 out of the 9 races and providing him the opportunity to defend his World Championship title.
In the 29ers our best performance was from Doug Campbell & Kieran Webb who finished their first 29er Youth Nationals in 13th position. In the Laser 4.7's, we had members, Andrew Henderson, Zoe Thomson & James Stewart all gaining valuable experience in their first Youth Championship in this Class.
WA Sailors are sure to feature prominently when they announce at the Award Presentation tonight the Australian Youth Team to represent Australia in Cyprus later this year.
