Rottnest Festival of Sail
Fri 28 Mar 17:00 2014
Friday, 28 March until Sunday, 30 March 2014
The Rottnest Festival of Sail was conceived by Greg Kerr, a Rottnest Foundation Board Member and a keen sailor. He had attended the Americas Cup 150 year Jubilee on the Isle of Wight in 2001 and participated in the Round the Island Race. It seemed unfathomable that such a race couldn’t happen off our coast, around our perfect little island. In 2011 the inaugural Festival of Sail was held, with 37 yachts racing to the island and around it. The Festival of Sail has developed over the years. It now has the capacity for 100 yachts, all with mooring space provided. With event partners Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club managing the sailing program, the Festival of it is the biggest sailing community event on the yachting calendar and one of the most anticipated with over 500 yachtsmen and women, plus their families visiting the island. This event aims to connect the yachting community with Rottnest Island and raise the profile of the Foundation and its work in ‘Conserving the Essence of Rottnest’. Now in its fourth year, the 2014 Rottnest Foundation Festival of Sail promises to be the biggest one yet!
Racing will be to and around Rottnest, together with mixed passage and windward/leeward racing. A weekend away at Rotto - Definitely not to be missed!
